Cozy Winter Reads and Gift Ideas! – DIY December

Winter is here and the evenings are getting cosy and long. Perfect for catching up on some reading.

I’ve always loved the winters and I am sure most of you do too! For me it marks the end of hot days and since the climate where I live is mostly hot the winters are a wonderful break!

It’s also the season of festivities – families get together with loved ones coming home from all over the world. Most of our weddings also take place during this time to make the most of families getting together and the wonderfully cool weather.

Ofcourse it’s also Christmas season and that means Hallmark movies, Christmas trees and lights and also getting ready for the new year!

While I adore all the festivities and good times with friends and family I also need some time on my own to enjoy the season. With a cosy blanket, a soft and warm oversized sweatshirt, some hot cocoa and a pile of books!

In this blog post I’m going to share with you some of my recent favorite magical reads! Some of these I’ve read and others are sitting on my bedside table ready for my winter reading.

Strange the Dreamer and The Muse of Nightmares

This series by Laini Taylor is incredible. A mix of magic, libraries, mythical creatures and sci-fi, it’s one of the most unique stories I’ve ever read. Highly recommend this for sixteen and above.

Deborah Harkness has done an amazing job with this series and I can’t wait for more books to come out about these characters. It’s got witches, vampires, demons, magic, time travel and so much more. As a bonus there is also a tv show based on the novels – season one is out and based on the first book and for once the show is almost as good as the book!

The Ten Thousand Doors of January

If you’re looking for ideas for gifts for family or friends who love a good magical read any of the books above are perfect! They would also make the perfect focal point for a basket for book lovers. Add a book, a cosy blanket, a bookmark, a mug, some sachets of tea, coffee and hot cocoa and some chocolate to a basket. Wrap it up in clear cellophane and add a bow on top for a wonderful gift! This is also a great way to encourage the young people in your life to read.

I would love to know if you’ve read any of these books or if you have some recommendations of your own. Please do leave them in the comments below!
